This is one of the reasons we live where we live. My son is now 13 and on weekends all his schoolfriends call up and they cycle through forsest and then simply have to cross one road to get to a McDonalds. They then spend the rest of the day playing alongside a river and coming home soaking but laughing. I love that they are having such an outdoors life! (Although to be honest when he's not doing this he's on the bloody x-box!! - What can you do?).
Similarly my sister had a really relaxed wedding. She got married in South Africa (they had already booked the holiday but then she got pregnant and sadly lost that baby late on due to him having heart problems so they decided to start again straight away so last minute decided to get married whist on holiday). Anyway when they got back they hired a country pub near Brighton for the whole day. It was next to a river and had paddle boats. Everyone piled off a coach late morning and the party started. We spent a lot of time on the river up and down in these boats and even if you didn't recognise people in a passing boat you knew they were from the wedding party so you splashed each other anyway! Later my brother and several others decided to have jumping competitions off a bridge into the river. It was such a laugh and my son who was about 8 at the time thought he was really cool joining in. It was the best wedding I've ever been to!
Funny, we cross the lake on a bridge that used to be a railroad bridge and I guess it was THE place to jump off, in it's day, despite the warnings. Bravo that you tried it; I would have been too chicken! Happy Fourth of July : ) xx Suzanne
We had a lake that my grandfather had made when he decided he didn't want to go far to go fishing. We were strictly forbidden to Leap into the Lake. So my dad took the floats and inner tubes and the four of us would float around the lake .. a sweet memory ..
those days need to come back! I'm up for some high school fun...wonder though if it would still be as fun!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Well I'm a chicken and I can admit it, that is something I probably would have never done.
