Whale Song

Foster Boy is still grieving the loss of his home. While he's clearly bonded with us and happy to see us, and stays close at all times, he's still deeply saddened by his loss. He lays in bed until 10 am and won't touch breakfast until noon. Most labs bound out of bed with the first twitch of your toe in the morning. He feigns sleep, even as I try to waken him. He doesn't like to be confined. During the day he has free run of the house and the cat is secured in one room. At night we bring him to our room so the cat can roam the house.  In the evenings as we sit together, he on his blanket from home, he lays with his eyes open and makes a profoundly sad noise. A haunting combination of whines and soft cries, rather like a WHALE SONG. We slide his rug over to our feet and try to soothe him with belly rubs and ear scratches, and he eventually settles. Adopt a dog this weekend!

For those of you celebrating father's Day this weekend, I wish you a lovely day. I bought the Raz Man 15 trees to plant...I just need to put a ribbon on them and I'm all set.

  1. How confusing for Choco . . . what is the story about him being a foster dog? Beautiful dog, sounds like he is calm and loving. Brings tears to think of his "whale like cry lament" . . .

Husband will be thrilled with his gift . . .

  2. Aww poor boy, but it warms my heart to know that he is with you guys and will get all of the love an attention he deserves and needs right now. Happy Father's Day to the Raz Man, and maybe trees would be the perfect gift for Mr. Tide too...hmmm?!

  3. Oh that poor dog makes me so sad. My older daughter adopted two eight year old yorkies who had never been out of the house, can you believe that?

    Nice Workable gift for hubby!

  7. What a heart breaking time for this poor guy. I hope he comes around really soon! I know if I lived in Ontario I'd be desperately trying to figure out how to bring him home.

  8. That breaks my heart...I hope he is comforted soon. You are such a great person, I'm sure he feels lucky to be with you. Just hold him tight-I'm sure he needs a big hug. And hugs to you for being so kind.

    Love the tree idea!

  9. Today's Foster Boy tale made me cry, it sounds like he came from a loving home and is in mourning for his family, when will people realize a pet is a life time commitment.

    All the best.

  15. Awww.. I have a chocolate lab, so when one doesn't eat you know they are out of sorts. So nice of you to take him in, lucky guy. They are the best dogs! Ours is almost 12 and I am enjoying every minute with him because we know his days are numbered.

  18. Chania, again, you are doing such a wonderful thing to help these dogs make a difficult transition. It really breaks my heart that he is so sad. There are many reasons people give up their pets, sometimes it can't be helped, but I would be hard pressed to ever give up one of mine. I hope he feels more secure soon and that his next family will be forever.

Love those trees! Are they cedar? Ann
