Barbie Makeover

An artist has come up with a Barbie whose proportions match that of the average 19 year old woman. Since the original Barbie's proportions are physically impossible for any real woman to possess, it makes an interesting comparison. But isn't fantasy what we are after when playing with our Barbies? or do we need to feel more comfortable with her size? You can read the NY Daily News article HERE.

I think the new Barbie looks great. If only I had had this prototype as a child....I would have felt more comfortable with the size of my feet.

  2. I didn't have Barbie's but my stepsister did and I loved playing with them. I don't recall ever thinking about her figure or comparing myself to her, I just loved all the clothes!

  3. Here, here! I agree with you. A little fantasy is ok as long as the fantasy doesn't become unrealistic dreams of being that way.

  6. For me I guess a Barbie is a Barbie is a Barbie . . . I like the changes but the "image" for me will always be the original . . . (And no way did I ever come close to the original look.)

  8. Fascinating. I never played Barbies. I went from baby dolls to pretend kitchens to paper dolls to the outdoors and books and stayed an active reading tom boy until the boobs came in...

  9. Is that new one real? I'm amazed and I much prefer it, for reasons I will not go into...

  11. LOL Chania! I saw this article and the first thing I thought of was my big feet! I like the concept. For me, the problem with Barbie wasn't so much her figure (she was meant to be a 3-d alternative to the paper doll, actually) but her coloring. My girls are all brown-eyed brown-haired beauties, and until Princess Jasmine arrived, none of the Barbie-style dolls looked at all like them.

  12. I always thought Barbies legs were far too long. And what I like the most is the inner thighs almost touch, or have a little extra like most women do. Very few people have a large gap in that area.

  13. If and when this is actually made, I am going to buy A LOT OF THEM! There is a giant hole in the market for something like this! :)
