Flowers in the house.

I picked all my peonies. All of them.  Every year they get all dehydrated and battered by the rain and humid weather, so this year, I picked pretty well the whole bush. I took them at the bud stage when the waxy top has just broken to reveal the petal underneath, and they have lasted over 10 days. The scent is heavenly. I put them in an old champagne bucket I found at a lovely vintage shop. Only after I bought it did I see the engraving. Happy 50th Maureen and Ian. It doesn't matter to me. I figured it must have good ju ju if it came from a home with a 50 year marriage. The little green chair is one I've had for years. It spoke to me at a flea market one day, despite the fact there were no little ones in our house. I keep it here because my Sweet Mama can only use her left hand, so when she is here, it provides a little spot for her coffee at just the right level, where ever she sits. You can also sit on it and smell the peonies if you like.

Linking to Jane's Flowers in the House today. Pop over to see what bouquets and posies await you.

  1. Oh my goodness - those peonies are just gorgeous. The whole room is. I could happily sit on that cute chair, smell the peonies, and get lost in that wonderful pile of books that you have alongside. xx

  2. Well this is a lovely surprise.

We met through FITH. I remember thinking, look at the room, look at those pillows, who is this woman!

And now you've added that beautiful little green chair, for all the right reasons.

I have been missing peonies, I can just about smell them from here.

  3. I am imagining the Peony fragrance . . . what a treat . . . Love the little green chair. Your mum will have to share the chair one day soon when Little Emma wants to sit there . . .

  4. Beautiful. I'll have to remember to do that next year with my peonies. Mine are beside the driveway and with the cars and their short life I don't get to enjoy them as I'd like.

  5. Ooooh, peonies, they always seem the most luxurious of flowers don't they, just so exquisite. x

  6. Beautiful, the flowers, the chair, the bucket, and the story about your sweet mother! I decided this year that the flowers are for me, not just for my neighbors who wander by and can barely see our flowers from the road, so like you, I have been bringing them inside to enjoy. :)

I love that you've been posting more, always a pleasure to visit.

  8. There's nothing like a silver ice bucket for an armload of the same flowers. We still have peonies in the Market . Alas, they are gone from my garden. Yes, love the little green chair!

  10. What a great idea Chania! Ours are starting to bloom now and I just might bring a few in, as rain is expected here and you are correct that they get bashed down every year.
You knoiw we had a table almost exactly like your round one here.....and it was white.
I understand about about that chair speaking to you too....as I bought a very small one recently. I like what you see.

  11. Ten days of peony heaven... Pure bliss! I planted this spring hoping for at least a bloom. I was rewarded with one. Anxiously awaiting next spring's results... Two perhaps? The champagne bucket is perfectly elegant for displaying your lovelies. A 50 year marriage... A charm indeed.

  13. Chania,
First, your room is beautiful! Not sure if it's casually elegant or elegantly casual but I love it. Super pillow too!

I think you were smart to cut all your peonies. You're right, they always seem to get broken or fried by the heat. So much nicer to enjoy them every day in the house. I think I'm going to be doing the same from now on.
