My Not So Decorated House

I've been faffing around making gifts and catching up on work and de cluttering my entire house.  Room by room I have purged the unnecessary and undesirable. Since the master bedroom is still under construction, all of it's contents are in other rooms.  I can't stand clutter, so I been ruthless.  I have only a few things to go back into the bedroom when completed. Two loads to Goodwill.  A load of dog towels, toys and pet beds to the Humane Society. (I hope you Burlington Goodwill hunters enjoy some of my donations...there were some great bits).

Everyone has been posting their Christmas Decor on their blogs for weeks.  I did string a cedar garland over the mantle and some Indian Mercury glass balls.  Along with my Santa Bunting that I purchased in Chicago.

With great effort I tossed 2 huge pine cones on the blue dresser.
My...I still have pussy willow in the big vase....shame
I usually fill the footed dish with Christmas chocolates, but it is getting low already.....
We are putting the tree in the basement this year.  We haven't got a great spot in the living room and with loads of people and my mum's wheelchair, it is far to cramped.  We will get 2 large fellas to carry her down in her chair on Christmas Day. The tree will go up next Wednesday when both kids arrive home.

This gorgeous painting was a trade with my friend Lorraine.  Her husband hated it, so I traded a vintage table for it......I think I got the better end of this deal.
I love this not so jolly paper mache Santa....a gift from a friend I have sadly lost touch with...I do think of her every Christmas though...
My fake Paper Whites. Next to the antique plastr mirror that I found on the road.  Really.
Evidence in the hallway.....Lindt chocolate wrappers...and dust..Christmas dust
It's not a lot of decorating, but all my house can manage.  Any more and it starts whinging.
I did throw a red woolly blanket on the guest room bed......

  1. I love it just as it is...enough to know it's Christmas! :)
Hope things will slow down for you to enjoy the holidays...sounds like next week will be busy and fun.
As always, I love visiting you ~

  5. Your mantle is very festive and Christmas decorating can get out of hand. I could never put a tree in every room but I have friends who do that.

  6. Don't feel bad. If I had not been so determined to get pix on my blog, I might still have an undecorated tree. I think the small details are still festive and beautiful. It is about enjoying the season, so don't be too hard on yourself. BTW, I really love your area rug!

  8. Yah know we in blog decorating world go waaaaaaaay overboard. You are the winner chania because after it is all said and done, you will be the one with the one box plopping everthing it it, and it will be packed away neatly, while we are slaving and roving to and fro cleaning up our slobbery christmas mess, whining!

  13. ah don't tease with all the stuff I'll miss out on at Goodwill, though goodness knows I need nothing.

Lusting after the blue dresser, the pillow on the guest bed, the guest room dresser and the fireplace mirror. It's your fault... you're the one got me thinking about lusting this morning with your email : D

  15. Oh Chania, I can so relate to purging. You can't believe the stuff I have hauled out of here, donated to Goodwill and gave a lot of it to a friend of mine who is single and has little money. We have turned her house into a home. I am keeping/buying only what I love from now on. No more impulsivity.

And by the way, I LOVE your black and white chair.

  16. I think your house looks great - simple and just the right touches to feel cozy and festive. Preparing for holidays is exhausting, especially when purging is involved - but I do find it to be so satisfying when it's done and I actually feel weight lifted from my shoulders. Nothing like a deadline to help motivate! :)

  22. You have no need to do a lot of Christmas decor when your home is already that warm and inviting!

I just stumbled across your blog for the first time and thought I would say hello! I looked through a few of your posts and love your style.

I'm a blogger as well, about the world of art, but my history is in interior design and fashion. I love to hear what people are saying! Hope we get to see more of each other in the future.

  24. This is my kind of decorating-- Clean and simple. Your Merry Christmas garland is so sweet-- it really dresses up the room. And I LOVE the red wool blanket.., so cozy.

  25. Simple and nice! I don't remember seeing your living room before. It's fantastic.

I will have to go and hunt through Good Will soon. Was it the VV on Fairview? Or another location. Wouldn't that be funny if I could find some of your hand-me-downs.

  26. Your not-so-decorated home is so well decorated that it looks good with just a few festive touches. Can't imagine the struggle it must have been to place those pine cones. As always, your restraint in styling allows all the beautiful pieces in the room to stand out beautifully.

  27. Simplicity is most often best. It is more difficult to be understated than it is to go over the top. Well chosen accessories, like words well-spoken, have more impact than those that shout. Nicely done! I love that little dresser with the palest hint of blue in its finish.
