For my big brothers birthday, I baked him a good old fashioned chocolate cake. Made with cocoa, buttermilk and espresso (you can use regular coffee), This cake recipe is my go-to cake for chocolate lovers and comes from The Barefoot Contessa's cookbook. It's called Beatty's Chocolate cake and is by far the most tasty chocolate cake in my recipe repertoire. It's also a very easy cake to make so you should give it a try. After you add the coffee, the batter is very thin, but don't fret, it rises like a dream and will be absolute perfection. You can find the recipe HERE and impress your own crowd.
I'm a big fan of the simple old fashioned birthday cake. Just a thick spread of chocolate butter cream icing, and my favourite decorations....Hundreds and Thousands.
Looks so yummy! My birthday`s coming up next week; I think I`ll bake myself one of these beauties!

I'm absolutely certain it tasted as delicious as it looks. Thanks for the pointer to the recipe Chania. I'm always on the look out for a failsafe chocolate cake. Yum!

I totally agree, that cake of yours is the real deal for a birthday cake.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful cake and I have that cookbook.
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious!
ReplyDeleteMy birthday is March 23 and you remind me that I have not had a Real birthday cake since we came to Buenos Aires !
ReplyDeleteI think someone will have to fix that this year ... don't you ? :)
besitos.
I love an old-fashioned chocolate cake too. I've got a good one-bowl recipe that comes out deliciously fudgey. I always make it for my guy for his birthday and top it with chocolate curls.
ReplyDeleteSo true. You just can't beat the basics, being a fellow lover of hundreds 'n' thousands, or 'sprinkles'as they are know here down under.
ReplyDeleteI will be giving this one a try. Thanks for sharing.
