Yesterday, I posted about an elderly gentleman who had wandered away from the nursing home here in Lion's Head on Saturday. Mnay of you have emailed me to say you were sending prayers his way for his rescue, and wanted to know when they found him. Sadly his body was found last night very close to the Home.
This has shaken this little village to the core. Everyone here knew him and his family. He grew up here. In a small community like this the fire and rescue department is mostly a volunteer one. For the entire weekend they joined with the Provincial Police, helicopters, police dogs and hundreds of locals to search for him. It was truly a community in action and brought out the absolute best in people. A few hundred people missed out on their own Father's Day here to find this Father. His name was Clayton.
Oh Chania, I am so sorry to hear this news it is so sad. You should however take some faith from your amazing community who all banded together in search of this poor man. That spirit of community and everyones selfless efforts are a blessing and hopefully you can all supoort one another in grief and prayers for him.

That's a sad story, Chania. Maybe he might have wanted his end to be that way? Who knows. If he was the same man you saw, then you must feel particularly touched by this event, but everyone's death is carried within them, and we do not know when they will lay them down, and we cannot know the 'what ifs'.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sad. You obviously live in a wonderful community - it's just such a pity everyone's efforts didn't result in a happier outcome.
ReplyDeleteOh Chania, how sad for your little community, but how great that you all band together in tough times like these. Such a shame. I'll be thinking of you today. K xx
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to see a community pull together, I have just been through that with the tornado. I am sorry he was not found alive but apparently it was his time and he is in a much better place but it is still very sad to those he left behind.

Chania,
ReplyDeleteWe had all prayed for a different outcome for Clayton.
Hopefully his family and you and your community will find comfort in remembering how much you all cared for his well being.

Oh Chania, I am so sorry! My heart goes out to you, Clayton and his family. Maybe he knew his time on this earthly plane was coming to an end and he wanted to feel "free" for one last day..
ReplyDeleteMany hugs to you and yours,

I am so sorry to hear this. I agree with Angela, that may be his last experience of freedom. May his soul rest in peace! verbena cottage
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so sad. I am very sorry to hear that. At times like these small communities can be a wonderful support. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear this story had a sad ending. But it is wonderful to see people come together for such a valiant cause.
ReplyDeleteMay Clayton rest in peace.
What a very sad tale, but maybe his time was up. A friend's sister died recently in Canada, and her last words were 'No thank you doctor, I'm fine'.
ReplyDeleteThere are much worse ways of leaving this world.

Sad for his friends and family...but let's hope Clayton made a choice.
ReplyDeleteHi Chania,
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by to say "hi" and hopefully cheer you up:)

Chania - I'm so sorry that Clayton had to die like that. The beautiful thing is that he died in the midst of a loving caring community like yours. Too many people in this world die being nobody to anybody. May he rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that! It's very shocking, especially when you know the person. My thoughts and heart go to his family right now. xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh, that is heartbreaking. I am speechless and saddened. For once, I have nothing more to say.
ReplyDeleteHow terribly sad. What a place you must live in though to pull together like that...it sounds as though he will be missed very much.
