On a Sad Note......

Yesterday, I posted about an elderly gentleman who had wandered away from the nursing home here in Lion's Head on Saturday. Mnay of you have emailed me to say you were sending prayers his way for his rescue, and wanted to know when they found him.  Sadly his body was found last night very close to the Home.

This has shaken this little village to the core.  Everyone here knew him and his family.  He grew up here.  In a small community like this the fire and rescue department is mostly a volunteer one.  For the entire weekend they joined with the Provincial Police, helicopters, police dogs and hundreds of locals to search for him.  It was truly a community in action and brought out the absolute best in people.  A few hundred people missed out on their own Father's Day here to find this Father.  His name was Clayton.

  1. Oh Chania, I am so sorry to hear this news it is so sad. You should however take some faith from your amazing community who all banded together in search of this poor man. That spirit of community and everyones selfless efforts are a blessing and hopefully you can all supoort one another in grief and prayers for him.

  2. That's a sad story, Chania. Maybe he might have wanted his end to be that way? Who knows. If he was the same man you saw, then you must feel particularly touched by this event, but everyone's death is carried within them, and we do not know when they will lay them down, and we cannot know the 'what ifs'.

  5. It's wonderful to see a community pull together, I have just been through that with the tornado. I am sorry he was not found alive but apparently it was his time and he is in a much better place but it is still very sad to those he left behind.

  20. What a very sad tale, but maybe his time was up. A friend's sister died recently in Canada, and her last words were 'No thank you doctor, I'm fine'.

There are much worse ways of leaving this world.

  23. Chania - I'm so sorry that Clayton had to die like that. The beautiful thing is that he died in the midst of a loving caring community like yours. Too many people in this world die being nobody to anybody. May he rest in peace.
