The Cats Pyjamas

I am packing today as I am heading to Montreal this weekend for a 3 day Wedding Blitz.  Engaged in November, my son and finance had to put wedding plans on hold due to the illness of a key player.  The good news is they have the green light and planning is now underway. And in a hurry.  Plans are for September this year.  Mother of the Bride (MOB) and Mother of Groom (MOG) are going to run around the City with the Bride and case out venues, food, decor and whatever else Wedding Planners do.   It is amazing how the wedding list can be difficult....cousins, aunts...friends of ours....who do we invite.....

Whenever I go away, the minute I get my bag out, the cat comes running to observe the ritual.  I think she knows by now that it means she's going to be left for a bit.  She makes me feel guilty..............................

I think she is wondering if I packed her pyjamas this time.

Have your kids been married yet.....any advice for the MOG?...................................................

  1. No, if I married off my kids, I'm sure I'd be arrested. Have a fun weekend! m.

  2. When I was younger I always heard the saying, "The mother of the groom should wear beige and keep her mouth shut." I always thought that wasn't nice.
So I say, wear something bright and offer your creative input with love. I'm sure it will be welcomed.
Oh and my experience with our own wedding a few years ago was to avoid the "wedding packages". You could get the same thing for a lot less if you just asked for it. And you probably can come up with much more creative extras anyway.

  3. my advice (that was given to me, by my florist) is to keep your eye on the "Big Picture" and don't get all caught up in the details. this keeps things in perspective....and focuses on the young couples LOVE.
    have a great weekend,

  4. My older daughter told me when she was planning her wedding: It's the marriage that's important, not the wedding.
    Pretty sage advice.

  8. I am a MOG as well - Sept 18th! I'm helping my FDIL collect vintage items for her reception decorations. (I posted a little about it last week if you want to peek). I have no advice since this is new to me, but I am finding that being supportive, willing to help and open to just about any idea has been helpful and luckily my son is marrying a wonderful young woman who wants to share the fun with this MOG. Have a great time! Ann

  10. I have one more month until our son's wedding so I'm full into being a MOG. My best piece of advice is in this post http://gracie-senseandsimplicity.blogspot.com/2010/04/how-not-to-be-monster-in-law.html. My future DIL really appreciated that and we have hit it off well. I do offer suggestions, but ultimately it is their wedding so have to let them decide. Fortunately, she is very easy-going and isn't too opinionated.

  15. One tiny piece of advice Chania...love who your kids love...that's all you need to do.

  16. I've been the MOB and MOG but both my kids chose to have very small, intimate weddings with immediate family only. 23 at my son's wedding, 22 at my daughter's. I can't tell you how grateful I am for that! :)

We did throw a reception for our son and his wife a few months after their wedding, once they'd gotten settled in their new home in another state. We wanted our friends and family to be able to celebrate their marriage but we honored the couple's wish to keep things simple and "uncomplicated" :) It was a fun and relaxed party. Because my DIL's family lived 1200 miles away, we felt comfortable hosting the party without worrying about stepping on anyone's toes.

And now our daughter, married in December, is planning a reception for this summer. They were willing to wait until June so they could have the informal, outdoor party that they wanted. Although informal, it will not be"uncomplicated"! But since my daughter is an uber organized person with a lot of other parties and events under her belt, I think my best course of action is to stand back and wait for her to tell me what I can do to help :)

  17. Have a potluck. Elope. Save the money for a downpayment.

Oh, if it were that easy!

I love the pussy and the bedding!
