Rememberance Day

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I get very emotional on Rememberance Day.  Seeing the aged veterans in uniform brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat.  I get so very choked up seeing them in parade or at the Cenotaph. I have so much gratitude to all those who have served or are serving our Country and those that love them.

Continued prayers for you Aaron.

  4. I always get choked up too. I had an uncle in the war and he would never talk about it. Can't imagine the horrors.

  8. Chania, this is a very sad day for me too. We are laying a wreath for Mr. Paints dad today. The first one since he passed.

But even as a kid and there on, I have tried to imagine the fear, and horror of war. We have no more vetrans from WW1 left, they have all passed and yesterday I heard on the news 500 a week of our WW2 vets are passing away...
We need to pick up the torch, Lest we forget.

They are so young, and so brave my heart goes out to those men and women who are serving this very minute.

Can I ask who is Aaron?

  10. beautiful. i am definitely remembering all those who have fought for our rights as well as all those that are currently fighting. i had to memorize this poem my freshman year of high school, about 17 years ago, yet i still remember every word, and it still carries meaning for me.

  11. What a lovely post Chania! Like you, I get very emotional seeing the parades and the veterans...especially those that are getting on in years!

A friend sent me poppy pins to wear last year, and I cherish them!
