A Contest - Call for Entries............ The Attraction of Simplicity

Blue Boat

Red Boat
For me this composition was a study in Simplicity.  Looking at something in it most basic, raw state and seeing much much more than a more complicated version.

From a hundred or so sail and motor boats in the harbour, it was these 2 that I was most drawn to.
Not the expensive yachts with their fancy equipment, polished decks and gleaming chrome.
Basic.  Simple.  Bare. Unassuming.

Food. Fashion. Art.  Design. Garden. Books. Pets. House.  People.

If you peel back the layers of almost anything,
it is the underlying beauty of something in it's most basic form,
 that is the most striking

If you have a photo that illustrates this point, send it to me and I will do a post of them. You can give a little explanation if you wish. my email is chania@razmataz.ca
I will then pick one that I feel represents the Beauty of Simplicity and the winner will receive something simple and beautiful as a prize.  Deadline Aug 1.  I will post the entries over the next few weeks.

  2. That's a good idea! The blue boat in particular is lovely (more graceful than the red). I'll have a rummage for a suitably simple entry. It'll make me see my images in a new light.

  10. I love this idea too! I will try very hard to send you something. I am in the midst of decorating three children's rooms for a wonderful client, who has a budget the size of a cheerio. Hey, talk about simplicity!

Maybe I can coerce Darling Daughter to send some too....If I make her favorite casserole.. :- 0

  11. I'll chime in, Chania... I think this is a fantastic idea for a blog-contest! I'll have to go through my photos and see if I have anything to submit :-)

Thanks for the comment on my drape-post... I'm so happy that they're finally finished! Bad news for me, though... I still have to make the drapery for our living room :-/

As I was navigating over here I noticed that you listed The Clash as a favourite band. My poor son = he grew up with the rule that whenever they played The Clash on the radio, it must be turned up real real loud ;-)

  16. Chania,
I am drawn to the faded blue one! I really think it would be a place to dream, sit awhile... and take it all in. I would let the peacfulness of it's meek self caring me away.

It is almost sad to see it sit at the waters edge. I love the simple little boats too!

  19. Well, I thought long and hard about this much of last night and this afternoon. Such a hard decision- probably so for many of us bloggers!

I know I always tend to have a camera on me, so I take hundreds of photos daily. Choosing which to submit to you was very difficult! I finally picked a few and emailed them off just now. I can't wait to see what everyone else submits! Great idea, Chania!
