Come For Dinner

Yesterday my new dining room table arrived.  I managed to sell the old one and finally found exactly what I wanted for the dining room.  This one came from Pottery Barn.....not a usual source for me as I much prefer vintage, however, I couldn't find one the right length and width and with an apron that would accommodate my mums wheelchair.  Plus, I am fed up with place mats and tablecloths.  I wanted good hearty wood so you can work at it and plonk a beer down if you want.

I also had to contend with the wood on my cabinet which is a little orange, so the table had to relate to it well.  I think they are getting along fine.  This table has 2 leaves which are not in the photo.  I can easily seat 12 with the leaves in.

I mentioned before that I have made some furniture mistakes in my own house and these 2 upholstered dining chairs were one of them.  Wonderfully comfortable to sit in, they seem to eat up the space when placed at the table ends.  I have placed then rather unconventionally on the one side. They can be moved for larger parties.

I can now sit here and do some work quite comfortably.

So if any of my blogging friends are in the neighborhood, I can have you for dinner!

  1. Oh I love that table and those chairs look so comfortable! I think they look really nice at the side of the table like that! Really like your blog and so glad that I found it.

  2. Wow I love it! I like that you can plonk a beer down on it; and the mix of (despite being new) it looking rugged, with your chairs, dark vs. light and arms vs. no arms. Not to mention that armoire next to it with the globes on top. So much light too. A very beautiful dining space. Sonia

  3. Huge vintage looking farmhouse tables are my very favorite!!! I love yours. I can't see the division where leaves are inserted ... does it pull out vertically or horizontally?

  4. I've been looking at tables for months and LOVE this one, seats 12? Really? How long is the table when it seats 12? WE have a HUGE space and have been looking for something that is very durable.

  8. I love the table - great size, colour, and style. I'm curious how you put leaves on as it doesn't seem to have any division, or do they get added on to the ends.

  10. I'm far from your neighborhood. So tomorrow, when I'm at dinner, I'll close my eyes and pretend that I'm at your table. A boy can dream, can't he? Love the table.

  16. It looks beautiful and works so well with your cabinet! I love how you've put the arm chairs along one side. We have a 7' farmhouse table made in Huntsville and while I love it, it doesn't work very well with our chairs because the apron is too wide and almost rubs on the tops of your legs when seated. We bought it years ago and ordered chairs from a supplier in Toronto, not knowing they wouldn't marry well together. I think I'll bite the bullet and just switch it out soon.

I wish my dining table could have a beer plonked down on it...I'm fed up of worrying about water and heat marks...you've inspired me to replace it with one as lovely as yours.
I use my dining room to work in too.
    Love your windows!

  29. Count me in Chania....I can be there in about 40 hours....I'll stop off for some wine.... :o) !!

SERIOUSLY though....I LOVE your new table....I must admit however....When I FIRST read it was from PB I reckon I had a look on my dial not unlike that of Phoebe's from Friends when Rachel started buying PB stuff....But....After putting my prejudices aside, I can honestly say that's one FINE LOOKIN' table....!!

    Now....Do you have a preference....Sweet, dry, fruity perhaps.... :o) !!
